Diagnosis and Part Selection Advice:

How did you know this part needed replacement? Why did you choose a certain brand/part number?

My Ford 5.0 was leaking oil from the valve covers and oil pan. I chose the Fel-Pro PermaDry gaskets because I have had the best luck using premium gaskets.

The Fel Pro PermaDry gaskets also have a metal core which made it possible to slide the new oil pan gasket into the narrow one inch gap between the oil pan and the engine. A cork gasket would not have been rigid enough or survived the rough treatment. The PermaDry gasket saved me from having to pull the engine to completely remove the saddle bag shaped oil pan.

Part Comments

What came in the box? Were additional nuts, bolts, sealant, etc. needed for the repair?

The instructions said do not use gasket dressing or other sealants.

The oil pan gasket came with neat plastic clips to hold the oil pan while the new gasket was aligned and the oil pan bolted on. I could only lower my oil pan about an inch so I did not get to use them.

Repair / Installation tips:

Special tools needed? Have to remove other parts to reach this one? Any left-hand threads, sharp edges, messy fluids or other pitfalls to avoid?

I followed the instructions and did use gasket dressings. My Ford 5.0 has over 200000 miles on it and these Perma Dry gaskets sealed it right up.
