2005 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 4WD Extended Cab
Front disk brakes
Diagnosis and Part Selection Advice:
How did you know this part needed replacement? Why did you choose a certain brand/part number?
Brake rotors were warped, calipers seized (not floating), pulsating brake pedal, front end shimmying and poor stopping performance.
Part Comments
What came in the box? Were additional nuts, bolts, sealant, etc. needed for the repair?
Ordered new high performance cryogenically treated cadmium plated rotors and good ceramic pads. Caliper pin boots (seals) needed to be removed to clean and grease the caliper pin holes. Went to local auto supply to obtain a typical caliper hardware kit which should contain pins, clips, boots and grease. There are none to be had anywhere: NAPA, Autozone, Advantage, Carquest, etc. Rockauto has a kit which may be the correct kit but they needed to contact the manufacturer (Wagner) to get the specs in order to ascertain the correct fit to my vehicle. My truck sits on jacks while I am waiting for information. Of all suppliers, Rockauto has been the most helpful with my dilemma. Dealer wants $80.00 per front brake for one of these kits ($160.00) which should cost $15.00 for the whole axle. Rebuilt calipers cost arouind $65.... Stay away from Chevy trucks!
Repair / Installation tips:
Special tools needed? Have to remove other parts to reach this one? Any left-hand threads, sharp edges, messy fluids or other pitfalls to avoid?
