[U-Joint replacement - Vibration]
Diagnosis and Part Selection Advice:
How did you know this part needed replacement? Why did you choose a certain brand/part number?
I felt a vibration coming from just behind the van cowl engine cover at various speeds, and got worse as
I sped up to about 50 miles per hour. It really shook the whole van. I also found out that I had dented the drive
shaft with about a 4 inch gash from a rock I had hit while driving. I picked up a used driveshaft and replaced the
Universals with new. I chose the U-joints that could be greased periodically. No more vibration!
Part Comments
What came in the box? Were additional nuts, bolts, sealant, etc. needed for the repair?
Everything needed to replace the U-joints, less grease. The joints, C-clips, and grease fitting
since I chose that option.
Repair / Installation tips:
Special tools needed? Have to remove other parts to reach this one? Any left-hand threads, sharp edges, messy fluids or other pitfalls to avoid?
When you take the drive shaft out of the transmission, some Automatic fluid will likely drip or pour out, so be aware of that. The original U-joints
were rusted in, and just to difficult to pound out by hand. I took the drive shaft down to my local repair shop to have the old U-joints pressed out
and the new U-joints pressed in, then greased. I was and still am very pleased with my purchased from this site. I will continue to purchase from them.
